Our
History & Future
|
1988
Chemical Safety is formed at the Richmond Research Facility
of the University of California at Berkeley. The University
of California initially owns the rights to the software. The
software is originally designed at its research facility,
and is called Environmental Management Systems V1.0.
1991
The designers of the software develop a new line of software
products to manage different areas of environmental
compliance and certification. This software completely spins
off from the University of California, and a new corporation
is formed to develop and market the software. The Company
and Company owners have full legal ownership of the
technology, with no further rights obligations to the
University of California. The Company is incorporated in
California in 1991 as a "C" Corporation under the legal name
SFS Chemical Safety, Inc.
1994
Chemical Safety launches its first website, www.chemsafe.com.
At that time, there are only a few thousand sites on the
web; Chemical Safety is one of the first companies to
implement Internet technology for environmental purposes.
1995
The Company establishes a European affiliate, Chemical
Safety International LLC, based in Athens, Greece. Chemical
Safety International LLC (CSI) is 51% owned by Tony
Diamantidis, CEO of Chemical Safety Corporation. CSI is
strategically positioned to participate in the European
Union's multi-billion dollar market for environmental
management and compliance.
1996
The Company enters into a strategic partnership agreement
with ENSCO, Inc., a national provider of hazardous waste
transportation and disposal services headquartered in
Chicago. ENSCO is a wholly owned subsidiary of Brambles USA,
which, in turn, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Brambles
Industrial, Ltd., a multi-billion dollar Australian
corporation. Chemical Safety provides compliance tools and
technology to all of ENSCO's regional offices; its field
personnel use the software in order to support ENSCO's
customers; and the software is installed at customers¡¯
sites. Chemical Safety establishes its regional office
onsite at ENSCO's headquarters.
1996
CSI is awarded a significant contract with the Greek
National Chemical Laboratory, funded by the European Union,
to establish Greece's first national registry of hazardous
materials.
1999
ENSCO provides $1 million to Chemical Safety for online
product development.
2000
Chemical Safety releases its web-enabled software. This
version 7.8 is three-tiered: for desktop, network and
Internet access.
Chemical Safety has grown from five employees in 1991, to
ten in 1995, to 31 worldwide today. Chemical Safety's
headquarters are in Emeryville, a San Francisco Bay Area
city with significant high-tech, biotech and pharmaceutical
industry. European headquarters and the main product
development facility are located in Athens, Greece and the
U.S. Midwest regional office is in Chicago, Illinois.
