Lesson 4 - The Chemical Reference Module

 

Introduction Viewing the Linked Chemical Reference Hazard Labels

 

Introduction

We are currently in the Chemical Reference database module. This database has specific chemical information on each MSDS record. Take a look at the diagram below. It shows the link that exists between the Chemical Reference and MSDS databases. When we create inventory records we will also create a link to the MSDS database and the Chemical Reference database.

bulletSelect MSDS from the menu bar, and click Prod. Ref./Chem. Ref.
bulletFind the Chevron Avgas 100 chemical reference record.
bulletNotice the NFPA/HMIS section on Page 1 of this record. Adding this information will allow you to create Hazard Labels.
bulletPage 2 contains chemical property data, and Page 3 contains OSHA related fields.

bulletYou can right-click the blue regulation bar and select regulations from the Federal List of Lists that apply to this Chemical Reference.
bulletSimilarly you can add synonyms.

 

Viewing the Linked Chemical Reference

bulletOpen the MSDS database.
bulletFind the Chevron Avgas 100 MSDS.
bulletSelect MSDS from the menu bar, and click of Prod. Ref/Chem. Ref. You will see the Chemical Reference that is linked to the Chevron Avgas 100 MSDS you just found.
TRY THIS: Select Window from the menu bar and click on MSDS to return to the already open MSDS database. Find another MSDS, select Window from the menu bar, and click on chemical reference to see the linked chemical reference.

 

Hazard Labels

bulletFind the Chevron Avgas 100 Chemical Reference.
bulletFrom the menu bar select File, Action, Display Labels.
bulletYou will see a screen with the required labels.
bulletClick the OK to cancel out of that screen or click Print

NOTE: Hazard labels can be viewed in the MSDS, inventory and Chemical Reference databases.

 

You finished the Chemical Reference module.

Return to the index page and select another database module you would like to learn more about. It is recommended that you continue with the Facility database module.
