Q: I want to download an update, but I see one large UPDATE file, and 6 smaller ones?
A: Download either the large UPDATE file, OR the 6 smaller ones. The 6 smaller ones are just the large one broken into 6 pieces, for users who have slow Internet connections.

Q: What do I do then?
A: They have PKUNZIP.EXE in their \UTIL directory. They need to unzip the file(s) they downloaded. (this info is on the web page also).

Q: I entered the password, and I thought it was correct, but I get ¡°invalid password¡± when I try to run the update. Also, it seems to try going all the way through.
A: Yes, it will try and complete the update process. Run the update again, be sure you have entered the password in lower case.

Q: Can I run the update even though I've got a very old system (maybe a DOS system?), and I haven't run an update for awhile?
A: Yes, every update is inclusive; i.e., it includes all past updates. We recommend that you update your EMS system at least every 3 months.

Q: I get an error ¡°unable to open database. view cancelled¡±.
A: If EVERYBODY gets this error, re-index the database.
If just one or two people get this error, look at the properties of their icons, as compared with the properties of the icons from people who don't have the problem.

Q: When I try and login to EMS, I get the message "cannot find system.ini file"?
A: Check the properties of the icon being used to open WEMS - it does not include the path to the system.ini file. What you might have done was open file manager or explorer and double-click on the WEMS icon.

Q: I am entering new inventory, and the system is trying to assign duplicate barcodes.
A: This was an issue with a very old version of the system. This was resolved in an EMS update.

Q: I get a message "Open error-DOS error 5 - you do not have network rights to a needed file.
A: Have them open a DOS prompt, go to the directory where the file is located, and type:
ATTRIB *.* (press ENTER)
If any items have an R in the left column, this is the problem - the files are read-only. This happens sometimes when files are copied from CD-ROM to their hard drive - it's a Windows bug. To fix this, have them type: ATTRIB ¨CR *.* (press ENTER.)
When they NOW type: ATTRIB *.* (press ENTER) they will see correctly that all items are flagged with only an "A".

Q: I entered some records, but I don't see them now.
A: Re-index. You can either do this from within EMS, by selecting File/Administration/Rebuild indexes, or from the EMS maintenance icon.

Q: The system looks "strange". Departments & locations are incorrect.
A: Re-index. You can either do this from within EMS, by selecting File/Administration/Rebuild indexes, or from the EMS maintenance icon.

Q: Can I archive records?
A: Some of the databases can be archived (MSDS, for example).
They are saved to a .DBF file.

Q: How can I retrieve records?
A: This is done using the MSDS Management module. From the browse window, select an item. You have the ability to view either the archive for the selected record, or ALL archived records in the database.
